Frequently Asked Questions

1. Who would be interested in this website?

Anyone interested in studying gene expression data from transplant subjects.

2. How is the gene expression measured?

By Robust Multichip Average (RMA) signal, detection p-value, and present/absent call.

3. How do I select gene expression data to view?

Follow these three steps:
  1. Select an experiment.
  2. Select samples. You can view variable values that were collected for the experiment (for example, patient age, patient sex, immunosuppresive medications) to help you decide which samples you are interested in.
  3. Select either a list of gene symbols or a list of probesets

4. If I have trouble with one of the web pages, what should I do?

First, try the Help link. The help is specific to that page.

5. Why can't I select more than one experiment at a time?

This is not a current capability as the variables for experiments are so disparate.

6. I entered a gene on the "Create Gene Symbol List" page and the search came back with nothing. Why is this?

The search is for gene symbols linked to probesets for the experimental array. If the array doesn't identify that gene as being associated with one of its probesets the search will come up empty. If you know of aliases for the gene, try these. To find more aliases for your gene, you can try searching for aliases in the National Center for Biotechnology Information website. To do this, go to http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov and choose the OMIM link.

7. I uploaded a gene symbol file on the "Create Gene Symbol List" page. Not all of the genes are in the "Final List of Selected Genes" box. Why not?

The gene symbol will only be uploaded if it is exactly the same as a gene that is associated with one of the probesets for the microarray used in the experiment.
